Good News For Groups As Strava Shares App Updates And Integrations

Last week, my annual Strava Premium membership renewed. And it stung. If you’ve been following news about the platform in recent months, you’ll know of the confusion and controversy these mysterious price hikes have caused. However, the company finally has some good news to share.

Now I love a tech conference more than the next person. Which still isn’t a lot but I at least take note. They’re perhaps the grandiose outings for words like ‘reimagining’, ‘end-to-end’, or ‘harnessing’. And Stava’s ‘Camp Strava 2023’ last week was no different.

The American company shared its reimagined product vision which pays special service to the communal aspect of the app. In particular, how groups and maps work. Co-Founder, Michael Horvath, commented that it’s something Strava believe “will democratise how people move and connect in the decade ahead.”

The update will boast features such as:

  • “A new clubs and groups interface for deeper and richer community interaction and experience beyond competition and goals

  • Larger group challenges in Clubs that allow organisers to set the rules and invite participants

  • And additional content integrations to include videos, routes, activities and much more.”

Strava set out to bring the locker room/sports club energy to a global community through their app and with improved features that celebrate sharing, interacting with and consuming content, they are certainly moving in the right direction.

But Strava haven’t stopped there.

It was also announced that for the first time ever, Strava will now have cross-platform integration with Nike Run Club. In short, the pilot programme which starts in June, will allow Nike Members the ability to access their data and share workouts on Strava too. Nike will also host challenges on Strava strengthening their community and offering the chance to unlock rewards.

I have always seen Nike Run Club as the master of motivation, and Strava- the don of data. Now that both apps work together, we can finally say goodbye to manually inputting data, and as for both brands, they are moving a step closer to getting more people moving on a day-to-day basis. It’s a win-win.
