New Balance Welcomes Every Form Of Runner In New Campaign

Speak to somebody that surfs, they will no doubt call themselves a surfer. Equally, someone that plays golf will tell you that while by no means a professional, they are indeed a golfer. But when it comes to running, people are a little more cagey about accepting that, because they are perhaps a little slower than others, they are a runner.

New Balance in their latest campaign, look to dispel this misconception, championing the everyday runners that don’t necessarily open up Strava and execute a pre-planned workout. Whether running after the bus, running to work, playing with your dog etc. New Balance wants you to know that you too, are a runner.

With some 90s inspired prints and a launch video, a more attainable, realistic approach to the idea of athleticism seems to be making headway, particularly with the success of Nike’s Play New campaign last year. While elite level athletes still play an important role in inspiring and entertaining us, the last few years have seen a shift attitudes to things that perhaps aren’t as expertly curated as we’ve been used to in mainstream media and scrolling our Instagram feeds.

The pandemic-induced Zoom boom which has given a lens into people’s everyday lives, and the rise of TikTok, a much more spontaneous, less ‘picture-perfect’ app than Instagram has paved the way for more honest advertising that tries to resonate with everyday people. Of their campaign exclaim “Everyone’s a runner, you just might not know it yet. Whether legging it for the bus, chasing the dog or legitimising last night’s takeaway, every runner has a reason. What’s Yours?”

They have also partnered with fitness app Strava encouraging people to log 30km in 4 weeks for a chance to win a place in one of the 2022 TCS London Marathon events. You can also earn 10% off New Balance gear on completion of the challenge.
