Sorry Runners, You Probably Look Like S***

The physical benefits of running are well documented. Improved sleep, weight loss, immunity and even life expectancy. And we haven’t even mentioned the mental benefits of pounding the pavement. But according to one plastic surgeon on TikTok, there is one major drawback that isn’t being spoken about.

According to Dr Gerald Imber, a world renowned plastic surgeon and anti-ageing expert, running is the main activity that causes you took look old. In his TikTok video he says:

“I have a pet peeve and half my patience love me for it and half my patients hate me for it, but it’s about running… It’s perfectly fine to run a little bit every day or run a couple of miles a few times a week…

But I wanna start this little talk by saying have you ever seen a long distance long time runner that didn’t have a gaunt, old face? That’s what happens. In addition to the old, gaunt face, your knees go, your ankles go, your back goes and it’s kinda dumb.

So, if you want to run a little, terrific! But no impact or low impact aerobics is really the way to get your exercise.”

Now there very well may be some truth in the fact that, as an impact sport, running might take a toll on how youthful you look. And this seemed to get a lot of love in the comments. More so for the fact it offered the excuse most people were looking for to leave their trainers in the cupboard. But contrast his reasoning to the obvious benefits running offers and it’s a pretty redundant hypothesis.

I would also like to point out the lack of charm in this statement. I, a 27 year old runner got ID’d in a supermarket when trying to purchase a non-alcoholic beer (I am fun, honest!) so it can’t be too detrimental to appearance, right?!
