The Next Level For Nike’s NEXT% Shoes

This week Nike revealed their most sustainable performance shoe ever with the ZoomX Alphafly NEXT% Nature. The newest iteration of their flagship running shoe now boasts 50% recycled materials and moves Nike closer to their goal of diverting all of their waste from landfill, back into the supply chain by 2025.

In trying to tackle their most advance performance shoe, Nike have opened the door to a complete production overhaul in which they can look to include more sustainable or recycled materials in their ‘simpler’, less advanced shoe designs. Rachel Bull, Senior Footwear Product Director for Nike Running stated:

“The exciting thing about pushing performance and sustainability forward with the Alphafly Next Nature is that we know if we can do it with our most pinnacle performance product, then so much is validated to bring that technology into the rest of the line,”

Questions around the level of performance these shoes offer in comparison to their game-changing predecessors will loom over the NEXT% Nature ahead of their release, but a more sustainable alternative is highly likely to prove popular among every day runners.
